A Brief Overview
Responsible for all aspects of medication management as they pertain to physician order review and entry, preparation and checking, provision of drug information, oversight of Pharmacy Technician activities.
What you will do
- Competent interpretation and review of appropriateness of all medication and medication related orders by physicians including thorough check for allergies, interactions, therapeutic interchange, contraindications, dosing, etc.
- Displays working knowledge of departmental automation and equipment as it pertains to their role in dispensing, checking, preparing and tracking medications
- Competent in utilization of information technology to support pharmacist assigned functions including pharmacy order entry system, electronic health record, on-line medication administration record, drug information, etc.
- Displays compliance and competence regarding standard procedures for preparing sterile products including departmental policies, aseptic technique, USP 797, documentation, safety precautions, etc.
- Displays competence regarding mathematical calculations required for accurate dispensing of pharmaceutical preparations for all medication administration routes.
- Handles medications, including Controlled Drug Substances, in a safe manner and in accordance with NJ and Federal Rules and Regulations to ensure proper storage conditions, avoidance of dispensing errors, tracking of delivery via closed loop system, and required documentation
- Displays ability to communicate efficiently and appropriately with all hospital personnel including, but not limited to, pharmacy co-workers during and across shifts, nurses, physicians, managers.
- Displays ability to identify and/or follow through on such medication related issues such as drug information requests, physician orders requiring clarification, adverse drug reactions, medication/patient safety concerns,
- Supervises pharmacy technicians in compliance with the rules and regulations of the NJ Board of Pharmacy and departmental policies and procedures.
- Displays competence regarding additional responsibilities as trained and assigned such as patient care area inspections, chemo coverage, etc.
- Covers alternate shifts based on need for Benefit Time coverage or Department need
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree of Science in Pharmacy Required and
- Doctorate of Pharmacy Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- Hospital Pharmacy experience Preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong communication and information technology skills.
Licenses and Certifications
- PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist License to dispense Pharmaceuticals in the State of New Jersey Upon Hire Required
