Radiology Film Librarian

A Brief Overview
Maintains an adequate image filing system for quick image retrieval and results reporting and provides imaging reference assistance for physicians via an "on-line" search in the Radiology Information System.

What you will do

  • Checks to ensure that the most recent visit year is indicated, is properly sent on PACS, and that the work list exam clearly identifies minors and mammography patients where appropriate.
  • Ensures that all Radiology work lists on PACS are collated with the appropriate patient for the Radiologist’s interpretation.
  • Locates and retrieves images via the Radiology Computer System and updates patient information where indicated.
  • Accommodates telephone requests for exam reports and CDs in a courteous manner.
  • Locates, retrieves, and loans out films (via computer) to physicians, patients, attorneys, nursing units, clinics and conferences.
  • Makes film duplicates or CDs for patient pick up.
  • Completes work left from previous shifts.
  • Prepares and exports radiology exams for next day’s scheduled OR cases as needed
  • Provides image or CD reference assistance to physicians.
  • Fills requests for Radiology cases for conferences held at the institution.
  • Distributes requisition work list appropriate Radiologist for interpretation.
  • Assists in the care and maintenance of department equipment; maintains stock levels of supplies.
  • Attempts to solve problems and refers unsolved problems to the appropriate person.
  • Uses bar coding and the computer system to promote efficient retrieval of patient’s films.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in safety practices to protect self and others.
  • Thinks problems through before acting on a solution; demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives and choose the appropriate course of action.
  • Assist physician requests to the best of his/her ability.
  • Uses time to maintain an even distribution of requisitions for dictation by Radiologists as needed
  • Utilizes Radiologists’ daily schedules to assign and prioritize reading of radiology exams as needed
  • Faxes reports to doctors’ offices upon request.
  • Adjusts personal schedule in case of fluctuations in the workload or departmental needs.
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality.
  • Displays and maintains a positive business demeanor.
  • Demonstrates compliance with Hospital and Department dress code policy by appearing well groomed, wearing ID badge while on duty and maintaining a professional appearance.
  • Observes Hospital policy concerning fire and Safety regulations, Infection Control Standards, smoking restrictions, telephone usage and other rules governing conduct while at work.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to own work schedule by adhering to attendance standards.
  • Reports to work on time at start of shift and after breaks, lunches or dinner periods.
  • Provides proper notification in advance for absence or tardiness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Incorporates physiological and developmental age of patients into overall plan for delivery of care.
  • Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and weekend hours in order to meet the operational needs of the Department and/or the Hospital.
  • Responsibilities will require the ability to read, write and rationally comprehend the English language.
  • Must be able to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that quality service is provided to clients and physicians.
  • Utilizing any or all Hospital provided equipment and/or safe work procedures
  • The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements of this job, including but not limited to walking.



Education Qualifications

  • High School High School education or equivalent preferred


Experience Qualifications

  • less than 1 year Previous experience preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have Medical terminology, Terminal Digit Filing System, strong Computer skills, excellent telephone/communication skills. (Medium proficiency)
