A Brief Overview
Manages, supervises and coordinates delivery of respiratory care operations of the neonatal and pediatric population within the medical center. Leads or participates in performance improvement and staff/program development programs. Functions as the clinical and technical resource in all respiratory care modalities across the spectrum of respiratory care. Functions as a consultant to the Respiratory staff and other health care providers within the medical center. The Manager is expected to maintain the skills and competencies to provide quality patient care in a safe and professional environment.

What you will do

  • Directs and coordinates respiratory patient care services in all areas caring for neonatal and pediatrics patients including Special Care Nursery, NICU, Pediatrics Unit, Emergency Department, perioperative areas, etc., on a 24/7 basis
  • Plans, schedules and organizes the workload, ensuring appropriate distribution of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel
  • Coordinates and adjusts staffing requirements based on acuity and volume of patients
  • Participates and coordinates the respiratory team for active participation in multidisciplinary rounds
  • Develops a plan of care in collaboration with physicians and nursing to promote continuity of care and improved outcomes.
  • Orients, educates, and evaluates the respiratory care practitioners (RCP) establishing professional competence on all shifts.
  • Provides guidance, education and direction to the respiratory care practitioners (RCP) to ensure evidence-based competencies are met
  • Ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures
  • Serves as the department's primary resource for development of clinical policies and procedures, protocols, standards of care, education, assessment and assurance of staff competency, and quality improvement processes.
  • Monitors compliance with infection control and standards of care through observation, verbal reports, audits, written documentation, and shares information with staff for areas of improvement
  • Maintains respiratory supplies and inventory of equipment
  • Collaborates to problem solve and support patient care
  • Maintains necessary records and data for administrative reports.
  • Collaborates with the Director to support staffing and budgetary needs
  • Maintains positive relationships with physicians, nursing and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Acts as the liaison between Administration, Nursing, Physicians, and department personnel, as appropriate, in daily clinical operations.
  • All other duties as assigned



Education Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care or another health-related field required or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care or another health-related field preferred and
  • Graduation from a Respiratory Therapy Program approved by the Commission for the Accreditation of Respiratory Care Education (CoARC) required


Experience Qualifications

  • 3+ years of critical care experience inclusive of Neonatal as a respiratory therapist required and
  • 1-3 years supervisor or manager experience required


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge in the clinical application and use of equipment including the following: mechanical ventilation, oscillation, nitric oxide administration, bipap, bubble cpap, high flow oxygen systems, and other modalities as appropriate for age-specific populations.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills are required to direct staff and participate in required projects.
  • Expert skills in applying respiratory care modalities and techniques along with the skills to lead and direct staff.
  • Ability to develop scheduling patterns and implement staffing models.
  • Maintain a work environment that is organized, positive, and highly supportive of a professional role to retain expert respiratory therapists.
  • Computer skills with Word, Excel and other programs


Licenses and Certifications

  • RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of New Jersey upon hire required and
  • RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist with Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) credential upon hire required and
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support American Heart BLS certification upon hire required and
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support American Heart ACLS certification upon hire required and
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation American Heart NRP certification upon hire required
