A Brief Overview

The Residential Care Associate at Villa Marie Claire Hospice facility provides compassionate care to patients, assisting them with daily activities and supporting their comfort and well-being. The role functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and is critical to maintaining a high standard of care in a hospice environment.


What you will do

  • Patient Personal Care: Assist patients with all aspects of personal hygiene, including bathing, grooming, oral care, and dressing, ensuring patients' dignity and comfort at all times. Washes patients’ personal laundry and bed linen as needed.
  • Mobility Assistance: Aid patients in moving safely, including transferring from bed to chair, assisting with ambulation, and using mobility aids like walkers or wheelchairs as necessary, and proper use of a Hoyer Lift under the Registered Nurses supervision.
  • Nutrition Support: Assist with meal preparation and feeding for patients, ensuring dietary instructions are followed. Monitor intake and output, and report any concerns to the RN. Assists the Registered Nurse with post-mortem care as needed.
  • Environment Management: Maintain a clean and safe patient environment by making beds, cleaning patient areas, and organizing personal and shared spaces. Ensure all equipment is sanitized and stored properly after use.
  • Incontinence Care: Provide appropriate incontinence care, including catheter care, and support patients with bowel/bladder training programs as needed.
  • Patient Comfort and Emotional Support: Respond promptly to patient calls and requests, providing comfort measures such as back rubs, repositioning, and ensuring easy access to water and nourishment.
  • Documentation: Documents patient/resident care by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow all safety and infection control protocols, participate in fire and disaster drills, and comply with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements to protect patient confidentiality.
  • Team Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively with the interdisciplinary team, including nurses, therapists, and other care providers, to deliver coordinated and compassionate care. Communicate any changes in patient condition or needs promptly.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as needed to support various team functions.


Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required


Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years Experience in providing personal care in a residential or long term care setting preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel
  • Relevant nursing assisting skills


Licenses and Certifications

  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant upon hire preferred or
  • CHHA - Certified Home Health Aide upon hire preferred
  • CPR-American Heart Association upon hire required
