A Brief Overview

Ensures efficient daily operations of the Ultrasound Department. Assigns resources as needed. Assists the Manager, Sono Imaging and Administrative Director in conducting special projects and studies


What you will do

  • Performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecological scans, cyst aspirations and biopsies
  • Performs vascular exams
  • Positions and transfers patients
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis
  • Assists physician in administering procedure
  • Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients
  • Secures and returns supplies, linen, and medicine
  • Consults with others to obtain a complete clinical history and gathers pertinent clinical data
  • Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations
  • Maintains an orderly, safe and clean working environment
  • Assists in allocating personnel to satisfy workload demands in the most efficient and effective manner possible
  • Performs scheduled Quality Assurance testing activities required by State, federal and local regulatory agencies. These testing activities are to be performed as outlined in Radiation Physicist Quality Assurance Manual
  • Prioritizes daily work schedule to most effectively process patients requiring ultrasound services. Prioritizes patients based upon clinical indications and physician referrals
  • Ensures that ultrasound services have ample supplies and materials needed to operate on a daily basis. Orders and maintains standard supplies for department
  • Ensures that all regulatory requirements for ultrasound are met and documented. Displays full knowledge of ultrasound regulations
  • Communicates equipment problems or concerns to Manager, Sono Imaging or Administrative Director. Makes service calls as needed. Presents documentation to Director for processing of payment
  • Assists in conducting and monitoring special projects or audits
  • Clinically instructs students in Ultrasound technique
  • Participates in in-services with staff regarding departmental quality control operations
  • Participates in updating the Clinical Ultrasound Procedure Manual
  • Assists in complying with Federal and State regulations, codes and inspections
  • Participates on various committees including department quality control and radiology Performance Improvements. Provides valuable input when possible
  • Suggests cost containment efforts, which maximize department effectiveness and image
  • Develops, suggests implementation and monitors new procedures and protocols to enhance department operations
  • Participates in department in-service education efforts and attends seminars and conferences on issues pertaining to department operations
  • Differentiates anatomical abnormalities and report to Radiologist
  • Differentiates vascular abnormalities by identifying subtle changes of sound
  • Protects self and patients from injury through careful observation
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality
  • Complies with Hospital dress codes by wearing ID badge and maintaining professional appearance
  • Demonstrates commitment to own work schedule by adhering to attendance standards
  • Utilizes time in an effective manner
  • Adjusts personal schedule in case of fluctuations in workload of the department
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize priorities and deal with them promptly
  • Attends all staff meetings
  • Reports any suggestions or positive changes to supervisor
  • Incorporates physiological and developmental age of patients into overall plan for delivery of care
  • Utilizes the PACS system
  • Provides on-call coverage as necessary per the needs of the Department
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime and evening/weekend hours in order to meet the operational needs of the Department and/or the Hospital
  • Responsibilities will require the ability to read, write and rationally comprehend the English language
  • Must be able to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that quality service is provided to clients and physicians
  • Utilizing any or all Hospital provided equipment and/or safe work procedures; employee shall be required to lift all objects as is practicable
  • The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements of this job, including but not limited to, standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, climbing, balancing. Must be able to stoop, kneel and/or crouch


Education Qualifications

  • High School or equivalent required


Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years Working clinical experience as an Ultrasonographer preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • ARDMS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography REGISTERED DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHER upon hire required and
  • RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist Registered Vascular Technologist upon hire preferred
