A Brief Overview

The School of Nursing instructor works collaboratively with the faculty team and the Program Coordinator to plan, design, and implement the curriculum including didactic, skills lab, simulation, and clinical activities to facilitate the achievement of end of course and end of program student learning outcomes. Academic advisement, committee work, and data collection to assess the achieve of student learning and program outcomes.


What you will do

  • Maintains familiarity and knowledge with current literature relative to nursing education and research
  • Plans, implements, teaches and evaluates various courses designed to meet nursing educational needs
  • Presents effective oral and written educational material to nursing students in a classroom, skills lab, simulation, or clinical setting
  • Evaluates and documents the progress of students on a timely basis in attaining course knowledge and level objectives using valid and reliable assessment tools
  • Verbally and in writing counsels students for any academic problems and notifies Director
  • Collaborates with Professional Practice and Unit Manager regarding orientation in the clinical area, and plans, directs and provides classroom and clinical instruction
  • Makes regular rounds to observe the student’s clinical performance and to identify learning needs
  • Acts as a role model for professional nursing practice and maintains an accurate system of documentation relative to the educational experience of the students
  • Consults with Holy Name Medical Center practitioners and departments to validate current practices, gather information and ensure a well-rounded approach to Nursing Education
  • Acts as a faculty advisor for student groups and recognizes student problems and learning difficulties and provides counseling or makes appropriate referrals
  • Participates in professional organizations related to nursing education and serves on Holy Name Medical Center or School of Nursing committees. Actively participates in school functions such as commencement
  • Identifies needs and makes recommendations concerning budgetary expenditures or in the development of school policies and procedures. Submits recommendations to Director on a timely basis
  • Participates in data collection to assess the achievement of course outcomes, end of program student learning outcomes, and program outcomes
  • Participates in the continuing accreditation process and activities
  • Maintains and revises the curriculum using outcome data, best educational practices, and current healthcare standards of practice


Education Qualifications

  • MSN required, doctorate preferred, nursing education focus is a plus.

Experience Qualifications

  • Previous teaching experience in a prelicensure nursing program preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.


Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of New Jersey upon hire required
