A Brief Overview

Ensures the evening and/or weekend operations of the Radiology Department and Active Modalities. Performs assigned management duties and projects at the direction of the Technical Director of Radiology. Assigns resources as needed. Responsible for all technical procedures including fluoroscopy, bedside radiography, pain management, operating room procedures and emergency procedures.


What you will do

  • Assumes Management role in the absence of the Chief Technologist of Radiology.
  • Ensure positive relations with nursing Supervisors and all Hospital Units.
  • Maintains adequate departmental staffing consisting of personnel interviewing, employee evaluations, intradepartmental orientation and employee scheduling.
  • Assists Chief Technologist in maintaining radiographic technique charts.
  • Monitors the quality of images produced and recommends repeats when necessary.
  • Trains staff in general diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepares room, equipment, medicine and materials as needed.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and disinfecting of the Radiology equipment.
  • Protects self and patients from injury and unnecessary radiation through careful observation.
  • Prepares barium preparation and other chemical mixtures for x-rays as needed.
  • Prepares patient for x-rays. Explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at conclusion of procedure.
  • Properly identifies all patients using 2 identifiers. Verifies Rx or physician order and diagnosis. Checks ID band.
  • Differentiates anatomical abnormalities identifying subtle changes of color and hue.
  • Maintains stock supplies and performs general office duties.
  • Follows prescribed techniques in administering general and specific x-rays. Adjusts equipment. Determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time. Arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient. Adjusts lead shield and selects proper film.
  • Assists in making x-ray copies and all other film library duties.
  • Takes mobile x-ray unit to patient’s room or ER.
  • Processes CR and DR images. Ensures they are properly oriented, identified and marked before transmitting to PACS.
  • Responsible for ordering all supplies for Radiology Department
  • Responsible for obtaining quotes from Vendors.
  • Keeps inventory of all service repairs in the Radiology Department.
  • Attends all staff meetings.
  • Reports any suggestions or positive changes to supervisor.
  • Incorporates physiological and developmental age of patients into overall plan for delivery of care.
  • Utilizes the PACS system.
  • Responsible for contacting PACS Administrator on call with any interface errors/problems.
  • Fixes minor technologist transmission errors, resolves exceptions in PACS.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Qualifications

  • Trade/Vocational School graduate of an approved school of x-ray technology Required


Experience Qualifications

  • Must possess a minimum of three years post-licensure experience and recent supervisory experience. Required


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime and evening/weekend hours in order to meet the operational needs of the Department and/or the Hospital.
  • Responsibilities will require the ability to read, write and rationally comprehend the English language.
  • Must be able to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure that quality service is provided to clients and physicians.
  • Utilizing any or all Hospital provided equipment and/or safe work procedures; employee shall be required to lift all objects as is practicable.
  • The employee must be able to perform the physical requirements of this job, including but not limited to, standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, climbing, balancing. Must be able to stoop, kneel and/or crouch.
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own work schedule by adhering to attendance standards.
  • Utilizes time in an effective manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize priorities and deal with them promptly.


Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist valid NJ DEP Radiography license Upon Hire Required and
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
